Pallet wood from a broken down pallet will come in many different width and thicknesses but generally 70mm or 100mm wide by 15mm to 18mm thick. Choose your pieces carefully as the pallet will probably have marks, dents and even splits to ensure you get the best finish for your planter.

As the pallet wood will have been are usually heat treated you do not need to use any wood preservatives although a generous coating of satin polyurethane can enhance the character and texture of the wood.

Do protect from frost and as a foot note please remember that red and blue pallets could have been used in the food and chemical industry and really not suitable and will spoil the look of of your planter. Pallets will have a stamp marking and confirms the treatment
